With a range of radiology technology at our fingertips, more Socorro residents can now stay close to home when they need important diagnostic care.

Last year, Socorro General Hospital purchased a new computed tomography (CT) scanner that produces more images per second in extremely precise detail.

What does this mean for patients? It means better, more defined testing options that our out-patient providers can choose from to help patients. Also, when patients need to come to our Emergency Department due to sudden illness or trauma, our clinicians can use the CT scanner to more quickly diagnosis their condition and more easily examine parts of the body such as the head, neck, chest or abdomen.

We have also expanded the ways we can check a patient's heart function. We now offer echocardiograms every Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound that produces images of the heart, which allow our medical teams to see how a patient's heart beats and pumps blood.

We also recently began offering vascular ultrasounds. A vascular ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to make images of the body's blood vessels. The images are used to check the function of arteries, and to look for blood clots in the veins throughout the body.

Another important radiology service is bone densitometry testing. This test helps determine whether patients are at risk of serious bone loss, called osteoporosis.

We want to send a clear message to our community – we are constantly evaluating our scope of services to provide the radiology services you need, right here in Socorro.
