Socorro General Hospital Now Providing Hospice Care at Good Samaritan

Release Date:

July 30, 2018

SOCORRO, N.M. – Socorro General Hospital now provides hospice care for patients at Good Samaritan Society, which offers rehabilitation and skilled care for those who require 24-hour nursing supervision.

A team of Socorro General Hospital staff, including nurses, social workers, therapists and certified nursing assistants receives referrals for hospice care and is available 7 days a week at Good Samaritan.

"At Good Samaritan, we are here to provide comfort and meet our resident's needs, and we seek outside contracts to provide specialized hospice care," said administrator Kenny Allen. "This is the first time that two Socorro organizations have joined together to provide hospice care. This is really big for the community—it means they have somewhere to go to receive this important care."

Hospice care is specialized care for people facing a life-limiting illness, as well as their families and caregivers. This type of care addresses patient's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, and is focused on managing pain and other symptoms at the end of life.

"Access to quality hospice care is so important," said Veronica Pound, administrator of Socorro General Hospital. "We are proud to provide this important care to residents of Good Samaritan– it means we can do our part to provide comfort and solace for patients and their loved ones in our community."

Socorro General Hospital has offered hospice care since the early 1990's.
